Detroit Breaks Through for
First Win in World's Series; Now Trails 2-1
|
At 36, Virgil
Hancock knows he may not have many playoff
appearances left, so he was determined to make it
memorable. Mission accomplished.
The Detroit
Wolverines starting pitcher threw 9 innings of
5-hit ball to help his club get past the Philadelphia
Quakers, 2-1, in Game 3 of the World's Series
at Schuylkill River Park today. Hancock took player
of the game honors for his performance. With the
win, Detroit now trails Philadelphia 1-2 in the
best-of-7 series.
The Quakers had few good swings against Hancock, the
left-hander, who threw 140 pitches over 9 innings.
He allowed just 1 run on 5 hits.
"I made some pitches when I had to," said Hancock.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at
Schuylkill River Park. Slated to start are Luther
Root for the Detroit Wolverines and Bernhard
Green for the the Philadelphia Quakers.
