World Series Game 1
Victory for Cartlidge and Chicago
|
The World Series got off to a
quiet start today, with the host Chicago
Traders taking a low-scoring 2-1 win over the
Buffalo Beavers.
Chicago left-hander Phil
Cartlidge was marvelous at Union Field and was
named player of the game. The Traders now hold a 1-0
lead in the best-of-7 series.
Chicago grabbed control in the bottom of the sixth.
With two out and a runner on 1st, Mel
Harrison delivered a run-scoring double, to
make it 2-1 in favor of the Traders.
"The old adage is true," said Cartlidge. "Good
pitching stops good hitting."
The next game is scheduled for tomorrow at Union
Field. The scheduled starters for the game are Hardin
Owens for Buffalo and Puritan
Ballou for Chicago.
