Road Win Lifts New York to
3-2 Lead in World Series |
The New
York Knickerbockers went into extra innings
against the Chicago
Traders but ultimately moved to within one
game of the Round 2 today. The Knickerbockers downed
the Traders at Union Field by a score of 3-2. New
York right-hander Red
Risher was named player of the game after a
solid outing in which he threw 8 innings allowing 2
runs. The win gives the Knickerbockers a 3-2
advantage in the best-of-7 World Series.
New York relied on the hitting of Sal
Davis to pick up the win. The third baseman
ripped a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th
inning to put the Knickerbockers on top, 3-2. For
the game, Davis
had 1 triple and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.
"Both teams played hard," said New York manager .
Game 6 is scheduled for Tuesday, October 10th, 1944
at Knickerbocker Stadium. The scheduled starters for
the game are Charlie
Cruickshank for the Chicago Traders and Bill
Price for the the New York Knickerbockers.
