World Series Game 1
Victory for Shannon and Chicago
|
The stakes were high. Joe
Shannon was ready.
The right-hander turned in a performance for the
ages at Union Field today, pitching a 9-inning,
complete-game shutout to lead the Chicago
Traders to victory in Game 1 of the World
Series. Shannon held the New
York Empires to 3 hits and 1 walk, while
striking out 5. The win got the best-of-7 series off
to a good start for Chicago, which now leads 1-0.
Shannon gave Chicago a solid start. The right-hander
allowed no runs on 3 hits over 9 innings.
"Obviously, we'd rather be at 1-0 than 0-1, but it's
a long series," Empires manager Pete Grassi said.
"We'll just have to pick up a game somewhere."
Game 2 is set to be played tomorrow at Union Field.
The scheduled starters for the game are Tom
Green for the New York Empires and Aart
MacDonald for the the Chicago Traders.
