When the stakes were high, Joe Shannon raised his game to match.

The right-handed Shannon turned in a stellar performance in Game 3 of the League Championship Series today, pitching a 9-inning, complete-game shutout to lead the Chicago Traders to victory. He allowed 3 hits and struck out 2. The win gave Chicago a 2-1 lead over the Philadelphia Quakers in the best-of-7 series.

Shannon was effective against the Quakers, seldom allowing a hard-hit ball. The right-hander limited Philadelphia to just 1 run on 3 hits over 9 innings.

"I had everything working," said Shannon.

Game 4 is scheduled for tomorrow at Penn's Landing Park. The scheduled starters for the game are Dave Keen for the Chicago Traders and Hugh Zipp for the the Philadelphia Quakers.
