League Championship Series
Game 1 Victory for Shannon and Chicago
|
The Chicago
Traders started the League Championship Series
in style today, downing the visiting Philadelphia
Quakers at Union Field by a score of 9-2 to
stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.
Traders right-hander Joe
Shannon was named player of the game after he
threw 9 innings allowing 2 runs.
Hank Farley,
who won the Most Valuable Player Award in 1943,
chipped in for Chicago with a 3-run home run in the
bottom of the sixth. For the game, the second
baseman had 2 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 home run, 1
single, 1 run scored, and 3 runs batted in.
"They say the first rule of the playoffs is to win
the home games," Shannon said afterward. "It feels
nice, but it is kind of what we were supposed to
do."
Game 2 is scheduled for tomorrow at Union Field. The
scheduled starters for the game are Jackie
Gregory for Philadelphia and Ken
Amison for Chicago.
