Trench, Traders Wallop
Quakers in Game 6 of LCS |
The Chicago
Traders and the Philadelphia
Quakers will take the League Championship
Series to a decisive 7th game. In a must-win
situation today, the Traders beat the Quakers 11-1
at Union Field to force the series into what will
essentially be a one-game playoff. Chicago first
baseman Melbourne
Trench was named player of the game in the win
after he was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and
a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 4.
Billy Hall,
who finished 3rd in the NBL in batting average with
.322 in 1949, chipped in for Chicago with a grand
slam home run in the bottom of the seventh. For the
game, the catcher had 3 hits in 4 at-bats with 1
home run, 2 singles, 1 run scored, and 5 runs batted
in.
"You work hard, day in and day out, hoping to give
the fans something to cheer about. Today was a good
day," Trench told the Chicago Gazette.
Game 7 is scheduled for tomorrow at Union Field.
Slated to start are Barrie
Ward for Philadelphia and Dave
Keen for Chicago.
