Lords Win to Extend Series
Lead to 2-0 |
When he got to Baltimore,
Gomer Cooper
was just worrying about staying on the roster.
Today, he was starring in the World Series.
The 22-year-old rookie right-hander shut out the
host Detroit
Wolverines 2-0 in a remarkable performance at
Wolverine Field today. With the win, the Lords took
a 2-0 lead in the best-of-7 World Series.
In his 100-pitch effort, Cooper allowed no earned
runs on 3 hits over 9 innings. He walked 2 and
struck out 3.
"It's a gut punch," Wolverines manager Ben Heuring
said, "to get here and find ourselves down 0-2 in
the blink of an eye."
The next game is scheduled for Tuesday, October
21st, 1952 at Seton Hill Stadium. Slated to start
are Tommy
Johnson for the Detroit Wolverines and Ben
Flowers for the the Baltimore Lords.
