Thrice as Nice: Chicago Seizes 3-0 Advantage With Late Win
The Chicago Hawks are one game away from a sweep after winning a shootout with the Detroit Wolverines at Hyde Park Stadium today. Leading the way to the 12-11 win was Hawks left fielder Jim Griffin. He went 3-3 with 3 singles and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Chicago now holds a 3-0 advantage in the best-of-7 World Series.

The game came to a dramatic end. In the bottom of the ninth, with Chicago trailing 11-9, Jim Schaefer hit a fastball from Juan Vasquez for a 3-run home run, giving the Hawks the walk-off win.

"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Barry Lolicht said.

The next game is scheduled for tomorrow at Hyde Park Stadium. The scheduled starters for the game are Gene Wingate for the Detroit Wolverines and Dan Manney for the the Chicago Hawks.
