Host Bulls Drop Pivotal Game 5, Now Trail Series 3-2
|
The Cleveland Bobcats have a critical edge over the Kansas City Bulls in the League Championship Series, thanks to the veteran arm of Jose Juarez.
Juarez, 36, put on a dominant performance at Independence Field today, leading the Bobcats to victory, 4-1, in a pivotal Game 5. Cleveland is now one game away from the World Series, leading the best-of-7 series by a margin of 3-2. Kansas City will need to win both remaining games to advance.
Cleveland used the clutch hitting of Harold Batkin to capture the win. The second baseman drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Bobcats ahead, 3-1. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"Every team in baseball loses," Bulls manager DD Martin said. "We're in the playoffs and we still have the same guys that got us here. We'll bounce back."
Game 6 is scheduled for Tuesday at Lakefront Stadium in Cleveland.
