Leave it to the veteran.
The San Francisco Seagulls got a great start from 36-year-old right-hander Dennis Fulton, as San Francisco won the contest, 3-2, at Wolverine Field. Fulton threw 8.1 innings allowing 2 runs in the win, which allowed the San Francisco to grab a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.
Willie Romero, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1961 draft, aided the San Francisco cause with a run-scoring double in the top of the fifth. For the game, the right fielder was 1 for 2 with a double.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said San Francisco skipper Al Borie.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Wolverine Field in Detroit.
