Game 5 was big. So was Jim Bryant.

The Detroit starter rose to the occasion at Mission Field today, leading the Wolverines to a crucial 5-3 victory over the San Francisco Seagulls. Bryant threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball as the Wolverines won on the road to seize a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 Divisional Series.

Jerry Plumley, the 21-year old left fielder , had a direct impact on the outcome. Plumley contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the eighth inning to put Detroit up, 5-3.

"I like seeing our guys get a return on what they've put in," said Detroit manager Alex Wobbema.

Game 6 is scheduled for Tuesday at Wolverine Field in Detroit.
