The right-hander turned in a performance for the ages at Wolverine Field, pitching a 9-inning, complete-game shutout to lead the Detroit Wolverines to victory in Game 1 of the Divisional Round. Fredrick held the San Francisco Seagulls to 4 hits and 5 walks, while striking out 3. The win got the best-of-7 series off to a good start for Detroit, which now leads 1-0.

"I liked his command," said Detroit manager Alex Wobbema. "John was throwing strikes."
