Seagulls, Drillers Play 10 to Settle Game 3, San Francisco Now Leads Series 2-1
|
With right-hander Jerry Patrick leading the charge, the San Francisco Seagulls got past the Houston Drillers, 4-3, in extra innings in Game 3 of the Divisional Round. Patrick threw 7.1 innings of 5-hit ball at Sam Houston Field as San Francisco managed to grab a 2-1 lead in the best-of-7 series.
San Francisco used the timely hitting of Darrell Martin to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Seagulls on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"The game of baseball will test you," said Al Borie, the San Francisco skipper. "This one tested us."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Sam Houston Field in Houston.
