New York Empires starter Larry Stanford pitched his team past the Detroit Wolverines, 4-0. Stanford yielded no runs over 8.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 3, and struck out 4. His record improves to 11-4. Jack Pratt, who leads the ABL in saves with 17, earned the save for New York.

Lowell Bickle had a big 2-run home run for the Empires in the bottom of the third inning. With New York leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from Juan Rodriguez, who is tied for 8th in the ABL in complete games with 4, and punished it. The result was his 3rd home run of the season, which put the Empires on top, 3-0.

"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Stanford.

The Empires now own a record of 41-38.
