Packers Turn Back Knickerbockers, 3-2
|
Cincinnati turned a good effort from starter Chris Montgomery into a win over the New York Knickerbockers at Roman Arena. The final score was 3-2. Montgomery, now 11-2, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 4, walking 0, and allowing 1 run. Brian Williams got the save, his 14th in 17 chances.
Cincinnati took control in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and runners on 1st and 2nd, Glen Bennett hit a run-scoring single to make it 2-1, Packers.
"Every loss hurts," said New York manager Timothy Widholm. "But this was a tough one."
With the win, Cincinnati pushed its record to 43-41.
