Quakers Trip Knickerbockers, 7-5, in Extra Innings
|
The Philadelphia Quakers clipped the New York Knickerbockers, 7-5, in 10 innings at Knickerbocker Stadium. The standout performance belonged to Philadelphia pitcher and Chicago, Illinois, native Fred Harrison. Bob Freeland picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Tracy Carpenter suffered the loss. Philadelphia, at 54-31, is 5½ games up in the National Baseball League Eastern Division.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Joe Voss? The Philadelphia third baseman had a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put the Quakers on top, 6-5. For the game, Voss had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"I play this game for myself and my family, but of course it's always nice when we can win," said Voss.
