Industrials Lose at Home, 2-1
|
In a low-scoring contest between the Brooklyn Bluebirds and the Pittsburgh Industrials, Jorge Sandoval, who finished 5th in the NBL in wins with 17 in 1969, proved to be the difference. The Brooklyn right-hander earned props for his performance in the 2-1 Bluebirds win. In 8.1 innings, Sandoval surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. Bob Hill, credited with the save, is now 13 for 17 in save opportunities.
Brooklyn used the timely hitting of Jimmy Mara to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Bluebirds on top, 2-0. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Runs were at a premium," said Brooklyn manager John Meeker.
The Bluebirds improved their record to 55-57 with the win over Pittsburgh.
