Brooklyn Topples Cleveland, 5-3
|
The Cleveland Bobcats got a superb performance from pitcher Roger Scherf, but the Brooklyn Bluebirds still won the game, 5-3. Scherf threw 6.2 innings of 4-hit ball. The winner in relief was Bill Keiser. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3.1 innings. He now owns a record of 1-0. The 4th-place Bluebirds now have a win-loss record of 57-59.
Greg Landrum dealt the Bobcats a blow in the bottom of the fifth. Batting with a runner on 2nd and Brooklyn leading 3-2, Landrum, who is tied for 10th in the NBL in home runs with 17, hit a 0-1 fastball for a run-scoring single.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Brooklyn manager John Meeker.
