Bluebirds Pick Up 6-1 Win Against New York
|
The Brooklyn Bluebirds went home winners at Flatbush Park, thanks in large part to starter Damon Rutherford. Rutherford stifled the New York Knickerbockers, enabling Brooklyn to grab the 6-1 win. Rutherford, who is tied for 8th in the NBL in quality starts with 16, went the distance for Brooklyn. He gave up 1 run on 6 hits. The win gives Brooklyn a season record of 62-55.
Greg Landrum, who won the Rookie of the Year Award in 1971, took New York hurler Danny Abril deep in the bottom of the first. His 2-run home run put the Bluebirds on top, 2-1. In all, Landrum had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 3.
"You need to show up when your number's called," said Landrum.
