Underwood, Knickerbockers Too Much for Explorers
The New York Knickerbockers cut down the St. Louis Explorers by the score of 11-7, with the largest share of the credit going to right fielder Bob Underwood. Underwood went 3-3 with a home run, a double, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 4 runs and drove in 2 for the Knickerbockers. New York is now 63-65, while St. Louis is 71-57.

The Explorers had been locked in a 5-5 tie with the Knickerbockers going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 27-year old catcher Rick Hotz came to the plate. Hotz hit a 2-run double on a first pitch fastball from St. Louis hurler Robbie Goolsby. It was Hotz's 28th double of the year.

"It was offense that won us the game," said winning manager Sean Kelly.
