Knickerbockers Improve to 12-9 with 3-1 Win
|
Knickerbocker Stadium was the site of a tense game between the St. Louis Explorers and New York Knickerbockers.
New York used a superb performance from starting pitcher Ollie Hundley to down the St. Louis Explorers, 3-1. Joe Walker, now 4-1, was credited with the win. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 1 and walking 0.
Gary Trent, who led the NBL in RBI with 147 in 1958, aided the New York cause with a run-scoring double in the bottom of the seventh. For the game, the pinch hitter was 1-1 with a double.
"Good pitching stops good hitting," said Hundley. "And vice-versa."
The Explorers fall to 8-12 and continue their unimpressive start to the 1968 season.
