|
Brooklyn Bluebirds starter Damon Rutherford pitched well against the Milwaukee Dairymen at Flatbush Park, leading his team to a win, 6-4. In 7 innings, Rutherford surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 0. He allowed 4 runs. The save went to Kevin Wade, his 1st this season.
Had Mike Bennett not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Bennett hit a 2-run single. That made the score 6-4, in favor of the Bluebirds.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Brooklyn manager John Meeker.
The Dairymen, now 10-18, continue their slow start.
