Empires Deal Wolverines 3-1 Defeat
|
New York turned a fine outing from starter Jon Pierce into a victory over the Detroit Wolverines at Wolverine Field. The final score was 3-1. Jack Neenan, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1968 draft, nailed down the save. The loss has the Wolverines at 19-9.
New York used the hitting of Jim Caldwell to pick up the win. The left fielder clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Empires on top, 2-1. For the game, Caldwell had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"I felt good up there," said Caldwell. "I saw the ball well."
