Eagles Pull Out Late-Game Win, 4-3
|
St. Louis got a valiant performance from pitcher Bob Trout, but it wasn't enough to beat the Washington Eagles. Washington won the game, 4-3. Trout threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. Ron Winder picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 5-2. Bernie Tate, who finished 4th in the NBL in saves with 26 in 1974, was tagged with the loss. St. Louis falls to 16-16.
John Stites was the walk-off hero for Washington. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Eagles right fielder hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
Washington manager Brandon Tucker praised his team's "businesslike approach."
