Eagles Win, 2-1, Over Brooklyn
|
The rain did not keep Washington and Brooklyn from finishing their game.
Washington Eagles starter Bob Viola turned in a top-notch performance against the Brooklyn Bluebirds at Flatbush Park. The result was a win for the Eagles, 2-1. Viola, now 1-0, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 5, walking 3, and allowing 1 run.
Jerry Duersch, who is a three-time All-Star, had a direct impact on the outcome. Duersch contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put Washington up, 2-1.
"My job is to throw quality pitches, go as deep as I can, and give us an opportunity," said Viola.
Brooklyn falls to 2-2.
