New York center fielder Charlie McKnight was instrumental in helping the Empires triumph, 6-4, over the Detroit Wolverines. McKnight went 3 for 4 with 3 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The Empires improved their record to 20-17 with the win over Detroit.

The Empires got a big boost from right fielder Paul Brower who had a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the first inning off Wolverines hurler Larry Black. It was his 9th walk of the season and put New York on top, 1-0.

"We'll grab a cold beverage tonight and go after another win tomorrow," Brower said.
