Corps of Discovery Stadium was the site of a tense game between the Cleveland Bobcats and St. Louis Explorers.

The St. Louis Explorers, despite a fine performance by Cleveland pitcher Roger Scherf, grabbed a 3-2 win at Corps of Discovery Stadium. Scherf allowed 3 runs over 6 innings. Randy DeJoseph picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Roger Scherf, who led the NBL in wins with 21 last year, was tagged with the loss. Ken Morrison earned his 2nd save, after closing out the game.

The Explorers got a big at-bat from shortstop Tom Guinn. For the game, Guinn went 1 for 3 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 5th home run of the season gave St. Louis a 3-2 lead.

"Bottom line," said Cleveland skipper Daniel Mays, "we didn't play well enough to win."

With the win, St. Louis pushed its record to 21-20.
