Knickerbockers Lose, 6-5, at Allegheny Field
The New York Knickerbockers got a sterling performance from left fielder Ron Freeman, but the Pittsburgh Industrials still prevailed, 6-5. Freeman went 2 for 5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Jerry Zaruba earned the win for Pittsburgh. He lasted 7 innings, allowing 5 runs on 10 hits, while striking out 3. With the win, he raised his record to 9-1. The Industrials lead the National Baseball League Eastern Division by 2 games.

Had Lew Ward not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Ward hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Industrials.

"We had situations where we should have got some runs in, but we didn't get the runs in," said losing manager Timothy Widholm.
