Great Effort by Knickerbockers 2B Wright Not Enough in 6-5 Loss
|
Though he had a stellar game, Steve Wright could not prevent his team, the New York Knickerbockers, from losing, 6-5, to the Pittsburgh Industrials. Wright hit 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. John Fagan earned the win for Pittsburgh. He lasted 6.2 innings, allowing 5 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 4. With the win, he raised his record to 1-0. The Industrials move to 28-19 with the win, while the Knickerbockers drop to 30-18.
Pittsburgh third baseman Keith MacPherson contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 41st hit of the season and put the Industrials ahead, 6-1.
"I'm just looking to see the ball, hit the ball," said MacPherson.
