In a low-scoring tilt between the St. Louis Explorers and the Los Angeles Blockbusters, Randy Birch, who finished 2nd in the NBL in ERA with 2.49 in 1975, was the difference-maker. The St. Louis right-hander spearheaded the 3-1 win. The winner was Birch. He threw 5.2 innings allowing 1 run. The loser was Jon Hampton. The save went to Alex Alonso, his 9th this season.

St. Louis used a well-timed hit by Johnny Witte to capture the win. The catcher socked a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the Explorers ahead, 3-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

Witte told a St. Louis Observer reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.

The win for the Explorers raised their record to 31-22.
