San Francisco Helpless Against Burkholder, Lose 8-0
Monday, May 19th , 1975
The San Francisco Seagulls were almost helpless in their 8-0 loss to the Seattle Emeralds and hurler Pat Burkholder. Burkholder kept the Seagulls confused all game, spinning a 4-hit shutout.
"Tip your hat to Burkholder," San Francisco manager Al Borie said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."
The 37-year-old right-hander had 2 walks and 3 strikeouts in a strong performance.
"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Burkholder said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."
Thus far this season, Burkholder has tossed 61.2 innings in 8 starts, fanned 25 batters, walked 13 and put up a 2.04 ERA with 7 wins and 1 loss.
