Captains Get One to Win
Wednesday, May 17th , 1972
The Milwaukee Dairymen had no answer for San Diego Captains pitcher Ray Heath. They failed to score a single run against him, losing, 1-0. Milwaukee managed only 10 hits off Heath, who had 5 strikeouts.

The extraordinarily popular Heath got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd.

"Captains fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances, but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible."

This year, Heath has compiled a 6-1 mark with a 1.57 ERA.
