Bill John of the Toronto Hurons was on top of his game.

The 23-year-old tantalized the Atlanta Generals with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 5-0.

"He had the changeup working," Atlanta manager Philipe Yazzie said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."

The Toronto hurler had 1 strikeout, gave up 4 walks and surrendered 5 hits in his complete-game effort.

John told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."

"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.

In the current season in 11 starts, Bill John has a record of 7-2 with 38 strikeouts in 78.2 innings and a 1.60 ERA.
