Hurons Blank Empires, Crumm Winner
Sunday, July 2nd , 1972
The New York Empires manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Toronto Hurons. The Empires were overpowered by Toronto starter Dan Crumm, who hurled his club to victory, 7-0.

"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," Jose Placeholder said.

Over 9 innings, Crumm blanked New York on 4 hits with no walks and 6 strikeouts.

"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Crumm said.

"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."

This year, Crumm has worked 127.1 innings with 109 strikeouts en route to a 6-3 record and 1.55 ERA.
