Weingartz Holds Pittsburgh Scoreless
Friday, August 20th , 1976
The Pittsburgh Industrials manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the San Diego Captains. The Industrials were overpowered by San Diego starter Bret Weingartz, who hurled his club to victory, 8-0.
"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," Vincent Wicker said.
Over 9 innings, Weingartz blanked Pittsburgh on 4 hits with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts.
"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Weingartz said.
"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."
To this point in the season Weingartz has 11 wins and 9 losses and a 3.83 ERA.
