Big Day for Sledd: Swats 5 Hits
Wednesday, July 17th , 1974
Chicago Traders first baseman John Sledd banged out 5 hits, but it was not enough to keep his club from succumbing to the Denver Burros, 9-7. He went 5-for-8 and raised his batting average a few points.

"If the hits keep coming," an upbeat Sledd said after the game, "the runs will too. And, more importantly, so will the wins."

John Sledd doubled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, grounded out in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off Rick Morton in the 8th, grounded out in the 10th, struck out in the 13th and hit an RBI single in the 14th.

For the season, Sledd has produced 118 hits in 359 at-bats for a .329 average with 10 home runs and gotten on base at a .362 clip.
