Zaruba Shackles Cincinnati
Saturday, July 20th , 1974
Pittsburgh Industrials starter Jerry Zaruba really did a number on the Cincinnati Packers, shutting them out, 2-0, on 4 hits in a complete game victory. He issued no walks and had 3 strikeouts.
"We didn't have good at-bats," said Cincinnati manager Martin Abresch. "I don't make excuses, but when we were playing the game, our energy didn't show. That comes from either extremely good pitching or extremely lousy hitting and seeing as our team has a bunch of good hitters, I have to tip my cap to Zaruba."
In 17 starts this season, Zaruba has recorded 7 wins and absorbed 9 losses. He has pitched 115 innings, allowed 125 hits, struck out 50 and has a 3.99 ERA.
