Coomes Hurls Wranglers to Shutout Victory
Tuesday, August 8th , 1972
Today was Steve Coomes's turn in the rotation for the Dallas Wranglers and he made the most of it, shutting out the Chicago Hawks on 1 hit.

The 31-year-old right-hander led the Wranglers to an easy 12-0 victory, allowing 2 walks and tallying 6 strikeouts.

"I hope we miss him next time," Chicago manager Mike Flaherty said. "Coomes certainly pitched a strong game against us today. He was in a groove, throwing everything for strikes. Throwing hard. Changing speeds."

Coomes has a 12-6 season record so far. In 25 starts, he has fanned 133 batters in 180.2 innings with a 2.49 ERA.
