St. Louis Punchless in 11-0 Loss to Captains
Wednesday, August 9th , 1972
Mark Pike was in a zone of his own most of the day, shutting out the St. Louis Explorers on 3 hits.

"He was too darn good for us today," grumbled St. Louis manager Ray Fleetwood after the 11-0 loss to the San Diego Captains.

Pike finished with 6 strikeouts and 7 walks in a strong outing.

In the postgame press conference, San Diego manager Joe Mack said Pike "had good velocity, good movement and had those guys off balance. He just pitched his butt off."

To this point in the season, Pike shows a 15-7 record, 24 starts, 180 innings, 110 strikeouts and a 3.00 ERA.
