"Damon was just locating so well and using his pitches," Brooklyn manager John Meeker said later. "He wasn't leaving anything over the plate." Rutherford recorded 4 strikeouts and 1 walk in a strong outing. "When he needed to make pitches, he elevated his game," San Diego manager Joe Mack said in postgame comments to BNN.
