Contreras, on Top of His Game, Beats Los Angeles, 11-0
Tuesday, September 26th , 1967
In an outstanding mound performance, Houston Drillers starter Oscar Contreras fired a complete-game shutout against the Los Angeles Pobladores at San Vicente Park today.
Contreras was the key to the Drillers's 11-0 win. The 28-year-old left-hander was in high spirits on the mount for much of the game, his mood largely undented by the 3 hits and 1 walk he allowed.
"3 hits?" he said with a laugh following the game. "Listen, I'd be happy with a 30-hitter as long as it was a shutout."
This year Contreras has recorded a 13-9 mark. In 30 starts he has fanned 153 batters in 205 innings with a 2.59 ERA.
