San Diego's Alford Suspended for 3 Games
Sunday, August 10th , 1975
Mike Alford of the San Diego Captains has been reprimanded and given a 3-game suspension for a shouting match with the plate umpire during a recent game at Union Field with the Chicago Traders. The Captains center fielder said he didn't touch the umpire, but the umpire insisted he did.

"I didn't see it, I didn't feel it," Alford said. "I was trying everything I could not to make contact with him. The league always sides with umpires. There is no use to appeal."

To date Alford has chalked up a .306 average with no home runs, driven in 15 runs and scored 9 times.
