Murchison Shows Off, Hits for Cycle
Tuesday, September 12th , 1972
Getting 4 hits in a game is no easy feat, but doing it to hit for the cycle is even more rare.

Jeff Murchison of the Philadelphia Quakers pulled it off at Flatbush Park, going 4-for-8 against the Brooklyn Bluebirds. His batting escapades sparked the Quakers to a win, 3-2.

Murchison tallied 1 run and drove in 2 during the game. Hitting for the cycle is particularly rare because of the different skills required - enough power for a home run, enough speed for a triple and enough patience at the plate to see at least four hittable balls.

"It just happened," Murchison said to reporters after the win. "Must have been fate or something, I wasn't expecting it. Heck, I wasn't even really trying for it."

Jeff Murchison flied out in the 1st, hit an RBI triple in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, doubled in the 7th, singled in the 9th, grounded out in the 11th, grounded out in the 13th and hit a solo-shot off Kevin Wade in the 16th.

On the season, Murchison is batting .306 with 21 home runs and 92 RBIs. He has played in 142 games.
