Ragsdale Sharp, Blanks Emeralds, 3-0

Pete Ragsdale of the San Francisco Seagulls was on top of his game.

The 32-year-old tantalized the Seattle Emeralds with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 3-0.

"He had the changeup working," Seattle manager Mark Velez said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."

The San Francisco hurler had 7 strikeouts, gave up 3 walks and surrendered 5 hits in his complete-game effort.

Ragsdale told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."

"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.

This year, Ragsdale has a 9-8 mark in 26 starts with a 3.11 ERA. He has given up 188 hits in 205.1 innings, struck out 124 and issued 63 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .244 batting average against him.
