Wolverines Win League Championship Series
Tuesday, October 10th , 1972
While it wasn't a complete mismatch, the Detroit Wolverines showed themselves to be the superior team in the League Championship Series, downing the San Francisco Seagulls 4-1.
"Nothing is ever easy in the Major League Baseball playoffs. Whether you're a favorite or an underdog, you can't take anyone lightly or you'll get burned," said Jerry Plumley, who was named series MVP after a standout offensive performance.
Detroit won the final game by a 9-1 count at Wolverine Field to clinch its spot in the next round.
They will hope to once again rely on Plumley there, as he hit .278 with 2 home runs, 7 RBI 4 runs scored during the series.
The Detroit Wolverines don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Denver Burros - San Diego Captains series. San Diego leads the series 3 games to 1. The World Series schedule will be announced after the League Championship Series finishes.
