Gruber Tames Knickerbockers, 8-0
Saturday, May 9th , 1964
Mike Gruber was sneaky fast, on the mark and hard to hit today. He led the St. Louis Explorers to victory 8-0, blanking the New York Knickerbockers on 3 hits. He had no walks and 5 strikeouts.
"You know what he's going to throw. You know what to expect. And you still can't hit it," New York skipper William Bowen told reporters after the shutout loss. "He just had a real deceptive fastball today and he was throwing it for strikes."
