Captains Move on to League Championship Series Tuesday, October 5th , 1971 The San Diego Captains are on to the League Championship Series, having knocked out the Pittsburgh Industrials 4-2. The final blow came tonight at Allegheny Field, where San Diego sealed the Divisional Round with a 5-3 triumph. Ernie Wilkins was instrumental in the series win and was given MVP honors. Wilkins hit .320 with a .346 on-base percentage. He had 1 home runs, drove in 7 RBI and scored 2 runs. The San Diego Captains will play against the Philadelphia Quakers in the next round. Philadelphia won their series against the Denver Burros 4 games to 1. The League Championship Series schedule will be announced after the Divisional Round finishes.
