Burros Win, 2-0, as Gannon Mystifies Los Angeles
Thursday, April 13th , 1972
John Gannon of the Denver Burros was on top of his game.

The 23-year-old tantalized the Los Angeles Blockbusters with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 2-0.

"He had the changeup working," Los Angeles manager John Trausch said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."

The Denver hurler had 5 strikeouts, gave up 2 walks and surrendered 5 hits in his complete-game effort.

Gannon told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."

"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
